New Music: J Cole – Miss America

by ike

The Cole storm is moving quicker than Hurricane Sandy. It’s been over a year since the release of J Cole’s debut album and he’s gearing up for his next project. Cole’s first single off his upcoming sophomore LP, Born Sinner, has premiered and to good reception. Classic Cole-bars over a heavy drum influenced track.

Cole plays two sides of the story on the introspective track, spitting bars that ask questions over good vs. evil like:

Am I about dollars, or about change? Am I about knowledge or about brains?

He also has deemed the track a public service announcement (in lieu of JAY Z’s D.O.A. track?).

I like the general feel of the song which definitely fits alongside the Born Sinner mentality and I can’t wait to hear more from the album. It seems that we will be getting more information regarding the album as the weeks pass.

Although not a “radio friendly,” single, in light of Kendrick Lamar’s latest success over his debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, I think J Cole will be just fine. Those who consider radio play and Billboard Hot 100 ratings as evidence of material are sheep. That’s an entirely different argument however.

But for now check out the track below and make sure to purchase the single, available here in a few hours (EST), via iTunes. Grab your blankets now!
