symphonic poem in c-sharp

an ode to the music

Month: October, 2012

XXYYXX isn’t a variant of Klinefelter Syndrome (i.e. XXY Syndrome). No. Instead it’s Marcell Everett. Yes, a musical literary. And at the ripe age of 16 at that. The Orlando, Florida native has been featured on XLR8R, The Needle Drop and Earmilk amongst others.

The electronica producer works in the comfort of his bedroom, creating images of still sadness yet peaceful emissions of hope through ways that are quite impressive of his age. In short, dude is sick, here to stay and his company is greatly appreciated.

Kendrick Lamar – good kid, m.A.A.d city (Album Review)

The album of the year. I have spoken this into existence. Moving on. K.Dot releases his highly anticipated studio debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city, and to positive response. Honestly I had my doubts as to whether this album would succeed Section.80, but let me be the first to say (if you haven’t heard it already), he has done just that.

Okay, enough talk. Lets begin.

Rihanna Announces New Album, Unapologetically

Mainly posting this for my best friend who idolizes Rihanna, but I think some of you may find it interesting at the least. Rihanna doesn’t slow down. At all. Less than a year after the release of her sixth studio album, Talk That Talk, the pop princess takes to twitter to announce her seventh.

My NEW album UNAPOLOGETIC will be released on November 19th WORLDWIDE #Navy

Led by the single, Diamonds, the album will feature contributions from Stargate (Unfaithfuland Ne-Yo (Russian Roulette). The single currently occupies the No. 18 position on the Billboard Hot 100.

The album cover (view below) features a stripped down Rihanna, with black and white words scribbled across here naked body. The Egyptian goddess Isis, that she dedicated to her late grandmother, can also be seen as Rihanna strikes a pose similar to her Russian Roulette single cover featured on her fourth studio album, Rated R.

She caused a bit of confusion when she tweeted ‘#sideeffects,’ leaving fans to believe this was the title of the album. She later removed the tweet.

All in all, I’m not really too excited. Rihanna has consistently released an album since 2009, leaving me to believe that it is simply for monetary gain. She does have hype, but it is mainly due to never breaking from the game, in my opinion. Since her Loud album, I feel that Rihanna has shown no growth and sticks to features and Hot 100 singles to progress her.

The only break she has had from the industry is in between Good Girl Gone Bad and Rated R (which, as we all know, has to deal with the Chris Brown fiasco) and even then she rereleased Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded, which included the hit singles Disturbia, Take a Bow, and the Maroon 5-assisted If I Never See Your Face Again.

In short, I’m sure that it will be another subpar album that will feature a few hit songs, all of which will be Hot 100-charted singles. This position will keep Rihanna in the limelight but her name in the books as an icon could be at stake.

But prove me wrong. Album cover below. Track list soon.

Kanye West – White Dress (Snippet)

Sigh. Still no Black American Psycho influence (I should probably let go of this, huh?). Anyways, RZA decides to release a snippet of Kanye West’s feature on the upcoming Tarantino/RZa film, The Man With the Iron Fists. Now before you all assume, this song is NOT about Kim Kardashian, but I do not think the world is ready for a lovey dovey Mr. West.

The track, based on the snippet, centers around a previous relationship. West reminisces about a former girlfriend and how she changed after a taste of the limelight. Cue Amber Rose bashes now. Read the rest of this entry »
